Louis de Sainson

Louis De Sainson  Born: France 1800- Died: France, c.1848

An official artist on board the French ship “Astrolabe” which visited Sydney and Hobart between 1826-1829. He was employed by the French Navy to paint scenes of interest to be used as illustrations for Captain Durmont d’Urville’s official account of the expedition.
The folio was printed using lithography in 1830 from original works by De Sainson. Many of the lithographs produced are interesting historical accounts of places and events in Australia (Nelle. Hollande)
