William Ford

Born: c1820-23 London

Died: 1884 St Kilda Victoria.

 

A brilliant landscape painter, Ford arrived in Australia from the UK in 1871 and was soon offering private art lessons in his St Kilda Studio. One of his students was artist Rupert Bunny.

Ford exhibited regularly with the Victorian Academy of Arts and inspired many others with his style of landscape painting. Joan lindsay was so taken by his ‘Picnic Party at Hanging Rock’ that she wrote about it.

His works are represented in State and Regional Galleries.
