This painting was well ahead of its time in 1933. A traditional landscape composition, that seems to be experimenting with the beginnings of hard edge colour field painting.

The work was exhibited at the Society of Artists exhibition in Sydney in 1934. It was given an honourable mention in a review of the exhibition in the Sydney Mail | Wednesday 12th September 1934 page 26

“A Robertson Landscape,’ by Elioth Gruner, is a beautiful picture which discloses this gifted artist at the highest point so far of his development. Mr. Gruner never disappoints. His vision of Australia is sympathetic, and his technique is on a high plane. ‘A Gruner ‘is a prize, for any collector”.
